My interest in sewing started after my daughter was born. I would occasionally watch my mom sew everyday clothes. Despite this background, I never really explored sewing myself until 2021. That was the turning point when I decided to dive into the world of sewing, and I haven’t looked back since.

Getting Started: Exploring My Interest in Sewing

Before I got fully into sewing, I already owned a Brother Innov-is F410 computer sewing machine. This machine is perfect for both beginners and more advanced sewers, offering a variety of stitches, an easy-to-use LCD screen, and an automatic needle threader that saves so much time. It’s also known for its smooth operation and precision, making it a fantastic choice for anyone starting their sewing journey or looking to upgrade.

Armed with my Brother Innov-is F410, I started with small projects. My first creations were simple pillowcases with zippers. The joy of seeing these small, functional pieces come together was addictive. I soon realized one can never have too many couch pillows, so I kept sewing more pillowcases. To take things a step further, I learned how to sew pillow inserts through a helpful YouTube tutorial. Weekends and late-night sewing sessions became my new favorite pastime.

Expanding My Interest in Sewing and My Toolkit

As my interest in sewing grew, I decided to expand my toolkit to handle more complex projects. That’s when I purchased the Singer Heavy Duty 14HD854 serger. This serger is a true workhorse, offering high-speed stitching and robust performance. With its sturdy build and ease of use, it quickly became indispensable for finishing seams and adding that professional touch to my projects.

In 2024, I ventured into making pencil pouches. Sewing pencil pouches is such a rewarding experience because they’re both functional and customizable. I made so many that they became my go-to gifts for family and friends. After that, I moved on to sewing makeup bags, experimenting with different fabrics and zipper placements.

Taking on Larger Sewing Projects

After improving my skills with smaller items, I finally felt ready to take on a larger project: sewing curtains for my kitchen windows. I chose to start with a simple tabbed curtain design, and it turned out great! This project was a milestone in my sewing journey, showcasing how far I’d come from those first zipper pillowcases.

The Latest Addition to My Sewing Collection

A few months ago, I added another powerful machine to my collection: the Brother PQ 1600S Nouvelle. This semi-industrial sewing machine is known for its speed and strength, capable of sewing through multiple layers of fabric with ease. It’s designed for serious sewing, with features like an automatic thread cutter and a knee lifter, which makes quilting and other complex projects more manageable. Since adding it to my setup, it’s been a game-changer, allowing me to tackle more ambitious sewing projects.

Sewing: A Passion That Continues to Grow

Sewing has become more than just a hobby; it’s a passion that brings joy and fulfillment. With each project, whether it’s a cozy pillowcase, a handy pencil pouch, or a beautiful curtain, I find a new opportunity to create and learn. My sewing journey is far from over, and with my trusty machines by my side, I’m excited to see what I’ll create next.
